Complete Faith

…nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. (II Timothy 1:12)

The Apostle Paul was completely persuaded that he could trust the Lord Jesus Christ. He considered the person of Jesus and said, “I can trust the Lord. I will do what the Lord tells me to do and trust Him with the outcome.”

Sometimes we consider this type of commitment to faith radical or unreasonable. However, we make these kinds of commitments to mere men all the time and think little or nothing of it. Consider these two examples.

We exercise complete faith when we fly. Have you ever looked into the cockpit of an airplane and seen the hundreds of dials, switches, and screens. If you are like I am, you would have no idea how to land if the plane suddenly started dropping from sixty thousand feet. When we step into an airplane, we are completely committing our life and our destination into the hands of the pilot. We are saying to the pilot, “I trust in your capability and honesty to get me to my destination as promised.”

We exercise complete faith when we have surgery. When I had four wisdom teeth taken out, I was put under. I completely trusted the qualifications of the doctor and that he would do what he said he would do with me. I was completely at his mercy. Fortunately, he kept his word and took the teeth out as planned.

Is it great faith or just plane common sense to commit my all into the safe keeping of Jesus? Christ is qualified because He laid down His life for me. He is capable because He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever present.
