The Benefits of Daily Bible Reading

The most profitable habit we can have in this life is reading the Bible daily. God promises true prosperity and success if we daily apply His Word (Josh. 1:8). As it happened with the manna of the Old Testament, yesterday’s bread still turns to worms today, and God’s provision is given day by day.

Psalms 68:19, Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.

  • The Benefit of Daily Food.

1 Peter 2:2, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

As a parent, it is amazing to see your “newborn babe” develop, grow, and mature so quickly. How is this possible? Milk.

People who desire and devour the daily food of God’s Word have health, strength, and spiritual vitality to learn, grow, and mature.

As a pastor, I can say the hardest people to feed on Sunday are those suffering from malnutrition throughout the week. An amazing thing happens when we make the decision to switch from Sunday morning life support to a daily regimen of God’s Word — our appetite for the Bible greatly increases.

  • The Benefit of Daily Cleansing.

Psalms 119:9, Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

Soap and water are among the cheapest things in the world, yet it is amazing how some people fail to take advantage of them. Similarly, as Christians, we often live our lives unaware of our own spiritual stench.

The Word of God is our daily cleansing agent. I challenge you to find a vigorous Bible reader who has destroyed their life with sin. They are hard to find because God’s word does a cleansing work in our life.

John Bunyan, author of the classic, Pilgrim’s Progress, wrote in the cover of his Bible,

“Either this book will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from this book.”

Somebody asked the Evangelist Billy Sunday if revival lasts. He said, “No, but then neither does a bath!” Bible reading is a spiritual bath. It works, but it must be repeated.

  • The Benefit of a Daily Guide.

Proverbs 3:5,Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

The Bible is Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. We make our decisions and form a philosophy of life from one of two places–from our own understanding or from God’s instruction manual. When I read the Bible, I am reading the Creator and Designer’s owner’s manual for my life.

  • The Benefit of Daily Protection.

Ephesians 6:17, And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Satan as a devouring lion seeks to destroy me. God has equipped me with a weapon to face my soul’s enemy, but it is my job to daily “take … the sword of the Spirit.”

  • My daily stability.

Psalms 119:165, Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

God’s Word gives me a peace that no trial, temptation, or hypocrite can shake. People waste their entire lives looking in all the wrong places for peace, for “inner tranquility.” The Lord tells us right where it can be found. It’s found in a love of His Word.

No time reading the Bible is wasted time! So lets make time to read it! A man once told D.L. Moody that he did not have time to read the Bible. He answered,

“My friend, if you are too busy to read the Bible every day you are busier than Almighty God ever intended any human being should be, and you had better let some things go and take time to read the Bible.”

  1. Thanks for explaining that reading the Bible is a spiritual bath that needs to be repeated every day. A few weeks ago, one of my friends told me they want to learn more about God. We’ll have to look into Bible studies.
