Who Is Greater Than Who?

And Joseph brought in Jacob his father and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.”(Genesis 47:7)

A weather-beaten, hundred and thirty-year-old pilgrim limped into a mysterious palatial paradise; and Pharaoh, the great king of the most powerful nation on earth, received him after much pomp. The typical guest would have been overcome with the sights, smells, and procession of the pagan court and overwhelmed with the feeling of his own smallness. Yet, something strange happened in the presence of this king: Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

If you were to poll the Egyptian population “Who is greater—Pharaoh your god king with his mighty army and empire or the lowly shepherd Jacob with his tribe of seventy souls?” The answer would of course be in favor of Pharaoh.  What if we polled the American public? “Who is greater a billionaire President or a child of God?”  What do you think the results would be?

“And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.”(Hebrews 7:7)

Hebrews says that Melchisedec blessed Abrahambecause Melchisedec was better!Jacob blessed Pharaoh because Jacob was better. Jacob was not better in health, wealth, popularity, or power; but he was greater in relationship to God.

Jacob could bless the king in a way that the king could never bless him. He prayed for the king to the God Who is and Who hears His children’s prayer.  Jacob pointed Pharaoh toward the God Who gives eternal life.

On several occasions, I have had the opportunity to accompany other pastors at the Capitol for set meetings with our representatives to give them a presentation and to pray with them: “We are not here to ask you for anything, we would like you to know that we honor your position of authority and we are praying for you… Can we have a word of prayer with you before we leave, Congressman or Senator…?”  The answer has almost always been “Yes”and “Thank you!”  As Christians, we discovered we could do for Washington DC what Washington DC could never do for us — we could bless them!

This truth of “the less is blessed by the better”was perfectly demonstrated when Pastor Andrew Brunson was released from a Turkish prison after being held there for two years.  President Trump who orchestrated Pastor Brunson’s release was blessed by the man whom he helped free!

Three Reasons We Can Bless the World

1.)   We are Children of the King!

2.)   We are ambassadors of Heaven!

3.)  We will rule and reign with Christ on earth some day!

Bless all the Pharaohs in your life!! Pray for them and with them. Tell them about Jesus. Be a godly example.
